First let me wish all the players, coaches and committee a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. For a look to the year to come, I would hope that amongst all the celebration and no doubt (over) indulgence we can all spare the odd moment to ponder our part to be played in what I feel will be a defining year in  the clubs relatively short history.

Gaining re-entry into first division in 2008, then consolidating our roll as a top 1st division club this year has not been an accident. The input by all, throughout the club, both on and off the field is a credit to each and every one of you. The skill and commitment, then willingness to back up by countless players when required, coupled with the stirling effort by your young committee and the tireless effort by all on game days is an inspiration to all and no doubt the envy of other clubs.

So, towards 2010 then, what do we hope to achieve.

For my part, no rash promises, for all too often they are doomed to failure.

I do think the club however is poised for a truly remarkable year.

To kick the year off with the tour of a lifetime will be a highlight for all of us. Never before has a Subbies club been invited to tour in such an historic fashion. The team to play in New Zealand and all those fortunate enough to be a part of the tour will be setting a precedent that other clubs, of any level, can only dream about.

Having had a couple of training runs we have seen nearly all the players who have indicated a desire to play and will be posting a tentative squad, subject to each individuals ability to get leave and find the required deposit, before years end. More players will be named, as required, and when we get a firm commitment from those selected.

Two full club trials will be played prior to the NZ Tour versus Hunters Hill and Kings and the season begins the week after we get home from New Zealand so it will be a very busy start to the season. As usual I won’t be spending a lot of our valuable time at training working on YOUR fitness. Do yourselves a favour, turn up having done a bit of work and then continue to keep yourself fit so we can concentrate on drills and skills.

Have a great holiday, be sensible, and come back in one piece.

Pre season begins Wednesday, January 26th.

Steve Broughton Rouse.
Club Coach

P.S. Congratulations to Tim MacRae and Angus Lumsden who have just achieved their S.L.S.A Bronze Medallions, after a 10 week course at Bilgola Surf Club. (That’s 2 guys who don’t have to worry about their fitness). Well done lads I’m very proud of you both.

The $400 deposit is due by the 23rd of December.

Please visit www.beecroftrugby.com and click on the NZ Tour button.

If you know you are coming, please pay so we can reserve your flight and accommodation.

You will need a credit card and your passport at the time of payment.

Cost is $1500 all inclusive.

Any questions, please contact Howard Baynie.

The information day conducted last Sunday regarding the upcoming Under 85 kg Team tour to New Zealand from Monday 29th March 2010 til Sunday 4th April 2010 was well attended and the detail provided on the tour showed that the costing will be in the vicinity of $1,500 per person whether a player or supporter.

It is proposed to take a squad of twenty-six (26) players to New Zealand for the tour to play two matches in the week. As we are aware the teams we play will be extremely competitive and therefore I need to determine at this early stage who will be in the touring squad as players. To that end I propose that we hold a light training run, no rugby boots, at Headen Park next Wednesday commencing at 6.30 pm.

If you are interested in touring as a player and cannot make the training next Wednesday I ask that you contact me on 0418 438882 otherwise I will see you at training.

Regards

Beecroft Rugby Club is preparing for revenge, with their recent match against the New Zealand Barbarians ending in a narrow loss.

Being a suburban football team playing in the NSW Suburban Rugby division, Beecroft Rugby Club was facing a David vs Goliath situation, with the Barbarians playing as the elite national team of New Zealand.

With the match being the first of the year with minimal pre-season training, the Crofties stared down their opponents during the customary haka, leading the match until the dying minutes.

Beecroft Rugby Club have been cordially invited by Auckland Blues Under 85kg and the New Zealand Barbarians Under 85kg sides to play 2 matches in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first game against the Auckland Blues franchise will be played Wednesday 31st at the Home of College Rifles. This game will be played under lights on the non abrassive astro turf pitch.

The second match is the big rematch scheduled for Saturday the 3rd of April. This game versus the New Zealand Barbarians will be the curtain raiser for Auckland Blues vs Bulls from South Africa Super 14 match. Not many people could ever boast that they have played at Eden Park in Auckland.

In March this year Beecroft narrowly went down 17 – 14 to New Zealands best. Its time for pay back.

What you need to do ? I need you to highlight if your interested in attending. There is a heap of work to get this up and running so I need your commitment.

The tour is a pre-season tour for the Beecroft Rugby Club.

Its over the Easter break and we have no normal games scheduled and should not clash with anyones uni timetable. The Club will put a package together in order to get the best price for everyone and will include everything from playing gear to uniforms and supporters gear. Its open to players, partners, sponsors, girlfriends, mums and dads. This is not just a boys week away, all are welcome ! So far we have had interest from over 40 people.

Stay close to www.beecroftrugby.com as we will be posting a registration button where you will need to enter all your details and pay a deposit.

This is a trip of a lifetime so please get in early and register your interest.

Don’t forget keep your weight under 85kgs your fitness up as we will be taking a squad of 26 players and all the necessary, coaching and support staff. New players are welcolm also to try out. Those who just want to come for a holiday and watch you are more then welcome too.

To any ‘Crofties who would like to come down to Bilgola Surf Club and have a look around, maybe see what is involved with becoming a bronze medal holder or just check the place out, have a game of touch and a swim, next Sunday, the 11th October, is your chance. We, that is, the Beecroft Patrol, will be doing our first patrol for the season, 9.00 am till 1.00 pm.

See Levi drive the “rubber duck” and see Childsy fall out. See Dooley get over his Saturday night, it’s all happening.

Seriously though, we will be able to show you around, have some fun and even a cold drink after we knock off.

Any queries ring any of the above, you will probably remind them they are on patrol, or ring me on 0418 438882.

Summer fun starts now!

IN what has been a tough year for the injury-riddled club, Beecroft Rugby Club’s reserve grade ended the season without the Suburban Rugby Union Burke Cup.

They lost the grand final at the weekend 17-6 to Mosman in what can only be called heart breaking.

Beecroft had all possession and dominated for the first half, taking the break up 6-0.

Half time saw the Crofties take that lead and start well only to be scored against by Mosman three times against the run of play.

Also please join us at our after match function at the Epping Hotel, we have Trax to ourselves to watch the Wallabies v All Blacks on the big screen, then the Dragons v Broncos.

See you there, by the way its my shout!
